Why yoga?

Yoga is not a religion but a philosophy and a way of life which focuses on finding the natural balance between the mind and the body. Yoga takes a holistic approach unlike other fitness principles as yoga focuses on the strengthening of the mind and the body to overcome attachments such as ego.
Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’ which means to merge, join or unite.

The aim of hatha yoga is to allow students to sit for mediation without pain or tension. The yoga practice builds strength so that during meditation, distractions are limited. Therefore, hatha yoga works to balance the mind and body.

Although yoga is not primarily exercise, it does have physical benefits for the body in terms of toning and stabilising the body to help prevent injuries by stretching and strengthening the muscles.
By practicing yoga and using asanas, this enables the practice of pranayama which focuses on breathing which can help improve concentration and when the breath is slowed, tap into the parasympathetic nervous system to calm down the body and help with rest, which can in turn improve sleep.
